It was amazing! Sure, the rain and storms always rage in the afternoon in Florida, so that was no surprise. The real surprise, no power at City Hall in Melbourne forcing the cancellation of the meeting!  We now have two more weeks to rally the troops to speak out opposing a ban on dispensaries – act now!
Yesterday(July 28), we sent out an alert asking you to tell the Melbourne City Council to vote no on a proposed ban on dispensaries. Melbourne City Council is considering banning dispensaries for one year. In their messaging, the council talks about selling baggies of pot next to schools; even though the only legally available cannabis will be oils made from non-euphoric strains.  These statements show they are in need of sensible education to allow them to make a ruling that is based on facts and not fears.
We took a team approach to resolving this issue here at the FLCAN office.  We were able to produce a graphic, find a list of City Council members with phone numbers and email addresses, draft sample letters and a call script, and then generate an e-mail to our supporters to empower their action. Working together, we launched a full campaign to move and educate Melbourne City Council in just over three hours.  This effort produced nearly three dozen supporters who used our online systems and many others reported making phone calls. Three dozen citizens in a small town is huge in three hours!  If you aren’t a member of FLCAN already, consider making your best donation to keep our office open and our team hard at work.
Thanks to the rain storm and the power outage the council meeting was postponed. That means we have until August 11, 2015 to send letters, make appointments and call the council members. During our calls we learned quite a bit about the council members. Don’t wait for FLCAN to make a meeting, your story is important and your voice may be the only one they will hear. Your voice is crucial on this issue. Click here to find the campaign with pre-written letters you can edit and send. (link) We encourage you to change the subject line and add your personal touch.
