For elected officials, perception is everything. If they do not believe this subject is important to people in your area, they won’t take a position on this issue. Just a few well-timed phone calls (and emails) from you and some of your friends could influence a race. Join our voter education project, FLDecides.org and stay up-to-date on the candidate’s races and ensure you get our periodic action alerts.

District 1 is a closed primary for Republican voters. House Representative Mike Hill (R-2) is challenging House Representative Doug Broxson (R-3). Neither candidate wanted to go on the record with us. Neither Representative distinguished themselves during the past two years by vocally supporting cannabis reform. Doug Broxson stated in the 2012 survey that he was opposed to medical cannabis, but would like more information on decriminalizing cannabis and hemp. There is a write-in candidate in the general so whoever wins this race is going to be the next senator. No recommendation in this race.

Author’s Notes: The team at FLCAN did our best to reach the candidates and convey to you their attitudes about cannabis reforms. If you have first-hand information contrary to what we listed, please send us a note to director(at sign)Flcan.org detailing your contact with the candidate. Polling the candidates and measuring the responses of our elected officials is an on-going effort.
