Look at all we've accomplished together!

Congratulations Florida on officially recognizing Medical Marijuana as a Constitutional Right!

Many of us are not necessarily thrilled with certain parts of the Implementing Bill, but it's important to remember we made a huge impact on lawmakers and effectively expanded patient access through our community’s efforts.

You can read the Bill in its entirety here (I would highly recommend it if you haven’t already!):

This month marks 20 years for past-President Cathy Jordan and our current Executive Director Jodi James.  Twenty years ago, at an event organized by Mike Palmeri and a group known as FORML (Florida Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws), Cathy and Jodi met. For twenty-years they have traveled the state and the country together to ensure you were represented.

FLCAN Legislative Priorities Announced

The leadership at Florida CAN has spent decades creating the language we use to describe the harms of prohibition. We've taught generations of reform-minded people to advocate for the cannabis plant and our right to the plant.

Post-Amendment 2 or What you need to know now!

November 8, 2016 was a good day for cannabis reform supporters. Florida became the 26th state in the nation to allow patients with debilitating conditions to access cannabis. In addition to Florida, North Dakota (27), and Arkansas (28) also passed laws to allow people with qualifying conditions to legally possess cannabis. Montana, a state where just five years ago we feared they would roll-back their medical program passed a law to expand legal access.

Although we had a full-slate of bills introduced this legislative session, only two are still alive at the midway point. SB 7066, a bill reported to fix the 2014 Compassionate Cannabis Act is active in the Senate; as is SB 902, the Hemp Industry Development Act. The Florida House is, so far, quiet on the issue of cannabis reform. Read our March legislative report here

Hemp Bill Moving Strong

The Florida Legislature continues to make cannabis history as Senate Bill 902 and House Bill 363  known as the "Hemp Industry Development Act" continue to move through the Senate. While no action has been seen in the House, lawmakers are still confident this bill will become law in 2015.

The bills, if made into law, would allow hemp producers to register their crop with the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. This would not only allow for the cultivation of domestically-grown cannabis containing no more than 0.3% THC, but make possession of any product made from hemp legal. Track Florida Hemp Industry Development Act's Progress and Learn More
